Rehabilitation for Posttraumatic disabilities secondary to Fracture of the Lower Extremity

Abstract
The basic principles and techniques applied on the rehabilitation for disabled persons are also indicated in the management of a patient with fracture due to many causes.
The 39 years old male has developed multiple disabilities in lowers secondary to compound comminuted fracture in bilateral tibias and fibulas revealed with associated damage of extensive soft tissues and nerves. The both knees are stiffed in extension position with equinus deformities in foot, severe fibrous scar tissues to the overlying subcutaneous tissue and skin in pretibial lesion, and chronic osteomyelitis in fractured tibia has delayed the rehabilitation program until 2 years after the injury.
Physical treatment and psychological approaches has been applied on restoration of the impaird function, and the patient finally became ambulatory with modified bilateral patella tendon bearing type short leg braces in heel lifted orthopedic shoes. Patient discharged under fully self sufficient level in activities of daily living with full responsibility as home supporter after 2 years and 6 months hospitalization.
After care of fracture are discussed particulary concerning soft tissue damage, and basic principles of therapeutic procedures and measurement are evaluated.
